DESCRIPTION:Presenter:    James Bogdan\, Senior Director\, Sustainability Initiatives – Structures and Sustainability \nNational Ready Mixed Concrete Association \nPresenter Bio:          \nJames Bogdan is the Senior Director\, Sustainability Initiatives for the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association.  Based in the greater Pittsburgh area he helps NRMCA members meet evolving sustainability-related requirements in building construction standards\, sustainability initiatives including product sustainability and transparency\, responsible sourcing\, and other environmental\, social and governance (ESG) practices. James also assists with developing strategies that will support concrete’s position within standards development and manages a variety of education and certification programs for the association \nDate: Wednesday\, May 19\, 2021 \nTime: 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm \nPresentation Summary: \nAn Environmental Product Declaration\, or EPD\, is an independently verified and registered document that communicates comparable information about a prescribed range of life-cycle environmental impacts of products.  In the past\, construction materials could contribute to earning LEED credit based on a single attribute like recycled content\, rapid renewability\, or regional materials.  Today\, a more holistic approach is necessary for garnering credits for more favorable environmental impacts.  This webinar will discuss the NRMCA industry-wide EPD program and how it can be used by concrete producers to demonstrate compliance with current requirements of green building standards. \nAgenda:\n– Trends and specific drivers of transparency \n– What are EPDs \n– EPD Process \n– Drivers of EPDs \n– EPD in LEED rating system \n– Product Disclosure in construction documents \n– EPD market activity \n– Final thoughts and Q&A \nJoin Zoom Meeting \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/87012546561?pwd=NlEyWm5wZ1NjYUVSTFZ2ZVNGWW5vZz09 \nDial: (312) 626-6799\nMeeting ID: 870 1254 6561\nPasscode: 898106\nOne tap mobile\n+13126266799\,\,87012546561#\,\,\,\,*898106# \nOur seminar is offered as a no cost\, value-added service to all WRMCA current members.  This is the sixth webinar in a series to address separate topics regarding compliance and safety guidelines\, changing regulations as well as a review of existing regulations. \n

SUMMARY:Why Do Good People Do Bad Things?
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: David Schultz – Hamline University \nCredits: 2 PDH and/or 2 AIA CES LU (AIA Course #MCC111821) \nRegistration Link: https://cvent.me/vwGPBx \nDescription: Why do good people and organizations act unethically? Architects and engineers may confront ethical dilemmas in many forms during their professional practice\, especially in the public arena. Many think that only unethical people do bad things\, and that ethical people generally do not do bad things. However\, the reality is that is often not the case\, and this presentation will discuss why good or ethical people often act unethically. In this program\, attendees will examine the Minnesota Rules of Professionalism and Ethics and examine examples of ethical dilemmas in professional practice. Specific case studies will be used to provide a foundation for an analysis regarding how the fostering of ethical diversity and thinking about one’s personal ethics within organizations can prevent the slippery slopes that lead to administrative evil or unethical behavior. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstand the Minnesota rules of ethics and professionalism.\nExamine examples of ethical dilemmas in professional practice.\nLearn how to foster ethical diversity and think about one’s personal ethics within an organization.\nUnderstand why good or ethical people often act unethically and how organizations can prevent unethical behavior.\n\nSpeaker Bio: David Schultz is a Hamline University Professor of Political Science who teaches across a wide-range of American politics classes including public policy and administration\, campaigns and elections\, and government ethics.  A three-time Fulbright scholar who has taught extensively in Europe\, and the winner of the national Leslie A. Whittington award for excellence in public affairs teaching\, David is the author of more than 30 books and 150+ articles on various aspects of American politics\, election law\, and the media and politics\, and he is regularly interviewed and quoted in the local\, national\, and international media on these subjects. Prior to teaching\, Professor Schultz also served as a city director of code enforcement\, zoning\, and planning in Binghamton\, NY\, and worked as a housing and economic planner for a community action agency. \nSponsors: This webinar was developed cooperatively by concrete-related associations from Minnesota\, North Dakota\, South Dakota and Wisconsin.  The goal of the cooperative effort is to bring a greater awareness of cast-in-place concrete to the design and construction communities via quality continuing education programs.  (MCC\, NDCC\, SDRMCA\, WRMCA) \n
