Neenah features an ice rink that replicates the one at Rockefeller Center in New York City. The ice rink serves multiple purposes, as both a family recreation area for ice skating and a patio area for gatherings including live music during the warmer months.
The plaza used a special 5000-psi mix with pea stone & Super-P to get the concrete to follow around the glycol freezing tubing. The site has two different types of tubing in the concrete – one to heat the concrete around the rink and sidewalk and the other to freeze the concrete in the rink to produce ice.
965 cubic yards of concrete were poured on this project and the ice rink itself used 126 yards. The concrete was placed as one mass for the rink, without a joint cut into the slab.
The project was funded by local donations, which guarantees to cover the operating expenses of the facility. The site is a great addition to the downtown area of Neenah, offering a variety of amenities for the community to enjoy.
