Description: Building codes are both laggards and leaders – laggards in the adoption of new materials or techniques for design and construction; leaders in the implementation of proven materials and improved methods for design and construction. This presentation will discuss the recent development of the codes governing concrete construction, including the new ACI-PCI 319 and ACI-PTI 320, and how these and other codes are expected to continue evolving in the future. We will also discuss the relationship between the governing codes and changes to other standards from ASTM, AWS, and ASCE/SEI that support the concrete industry.
